Description

The California Nebula, NGC 1499, SH2-220 is a large emission nebula in Perseus.  It is large enough that some of its exquisite detail is ofen lost in an image that covers its full expanse and yet fits on a computer screen.  i decided to take a look at the middle of the 'state" with the ONTC 8" Newt, which has a .845 arcsec/pixel image scale and covers .685 degrees of sky.

This data was captured with Voyager using a homebrew scheduler, which didn't do a good job of balancing filters.  It took almost three times as much H-alpha data as SII and OIII, but fortunately the nebula is dominated by Ha so we picked the right filter to go deep on, by accident :-) .

JAPN - Just a Pretty Nebula!

Thanks for having a look.
